Our Story

Monotone is an Australian sock company, creating a premium sock experience built on quality fabrics, vintage knitting and generations of expertise. We are based in Sydney, and our socks are carefully and slowly knit by skilled sock makers in Japan’s Nara Prefecture.

We make them like they used to. Low tech. High quality. Natural materials. The result is a quality sock of premium fabric, thick and durable with a soft, luxurious feel, that gets more comfortable with each wear and can be worn over and over and over. Try them on and you may never take them off.

A sock legacy

Our skilled makers use vintage knitting machinery inherited from past generations to create socks that fully utilise the quality of the materials, and that cannot be replicated by modern mass-production.

Crafted for comfort

The socks are made on a low gauge double cylinder knitting machines that have become exceedingly rare. The knitting is done at a careful speed to avoid putting stress on the yarn, and the knitted end result contains plenty of air to create a thick, firm fabric.
